Nika Machaidzes was familiar with the film business from an early age, as both his father Vaja Machaidze and his two uncles on his father's side are or were in it. His older brother Giorgi works as an actor. His cousin is the artist and filmmaker Salome Machaidze .

Nika Machaidze studied animation and directing at the film faculty of the Schota Rustaveli Theater Institute in Tbilisi, where he graduated in animation in 1992 and graduated as a director in 1997. From 1991 to 2000 he worked as a writer, director, composer and editor for the Georgian state television and for Rustavi 2 .

Machaidze belongs to the Georgian artist group Goslab . At the 2001 Short Film Festival in Oberhausen , a film by Nikakoi was on the program; at the MUVI Awards 2002, a video by Tusia Beridze for which he had contributed the music was awarded second place.

Nika Machaidze has produced several music videos for herself and musician friends (see below). In 2005 he contributed six videos to the film Elektronavtebi / Electronauts , which was produced for Georgian State Television .

Musician

In 1999 Nika Machaidze performed at the Electronic Music Festival in Paris and won the Grand Prix there. In search of a stage name, he resorted to a suggestion from artist friend Thea Djordjadze and called himself Nikakoi ( никакой , Russian for none ).

Under this name, Machaidze produces a type of electronic music ( IDM ) that relies on breakbeat rhythms, harmony and melody guides with references to Georgian folk music. His pieces are often written in the minor key, which creates a melancholy mood.

In February 2002 Machaidze released his first album Sestrichka (Russian for: little sister ) on the Berlin label WMF Records . For publications on the Laboratory Instinct label , he adopted the name Erast as another pseudonym , which refers to the fictional character Erast Fandorin .

Machaidze is the author of film and theater music, for example for the play Der Park by Botho Strauss or for the film Bandits by Zaza Rusadze . He contributes music for fashion shows, for jingles for Georgian television and for commercials.

As a musician he is u. a. involved in the works of Tusia Beridze and George Dzodzuashvili (Post Industrial Boys).
