Nikhil Kanetkar (born May 13, 1979 in Pune , Maharashtra ) is an Indian badminton player .

As a member of the Indian national team, he won the silver medal at the 1998 Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur . He reached second places in individual competitions in 1999 at the US Open, 2001 at the Scottish Open and 2002 at the Welsh Open. In 2003 Kanetkar won the Volant d'Or de Toulouse .

Kanetkar took part in the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens . Here he defeated the Spaniard Sergio Llopis in three sets in the first round , but retired in the second round after a defeat in two sets against the Dane Peter Gade .

In the 2004/05 Bundesliga season , Kanetkar played for 1. BC Bischmisheim . His involvement in the play-off semifinals against EBT Berlin was declared by the DBV association court for not complying with the Bundesliga rules, whereupon both matches were rated 8-0 for Berlin. In 2005 he won the South Africa International .
