Yevgeny Wassiljewitsch Trefilow ( Russian Евге́ний Васи́льевич Трефи́лов ; born September 4, 1955 in Beslesny , Krasnodar region ) is a former Russian handball coach and handball player .
Career
Trefilow began playing handball at the age of 15 and played for Uroshai Krasnodar, Dinamo Astrachan and Burewestnik Krasnodar . The greatest success in his playing career was in 1983 winning the bronze medal at the Spartakiad of the Peoples of the USSR .
Between 1984 and 1990 Trefilow trained with GK Kuban Krasnodar his first women's team, which won the championship in 1989 under his direction. From 1992 he coached the ladies of Rossianka Volgograd for two years. From 1993 to 1995 he was assistant coach of the Russian national women's handball team . After Trefilow then coached the Russian national junior team, he became assistant coach of the Russian men's national handball team in 1997 , which won the World Cup in the same year .
In 1998 Trefilow switched back to women's handball and was coach of AdyIF Maikop. A year later he took over the coaching position from GK Lada Tolyatti , who won the championship in 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006 and the European Cup Winners' Cup in 2002. In 2006 he left Lada and then trained Zvezda Zvenigorod . Under his leadership, Zvezda won the championship and the EHF Cup in 2007 and the EHF Champions League in 2008 . In the summer of 2011, Zdravko Zovko took over his coaching position at Zvenigorod. Then Trefilow returned to GK Lada Tolyatti, who won the EHF Cup in 2012. In December 2012 he ended his coaching work due to health problems. In July 2013 Trefilov returned to the dugout and took over the women's team from Kuban Krasnodar. In December 2014, he resigned from his position at Kuban Krasnodar. From January 2016 until the end of the 2015/16 season, Trefilov was part of the coaching team of GK Astrachanotschka , whose women's team won the Russian championship. He then took over again as coach from Kuban Krasnodar.
On December 28, 1999 Trefilow also took over the coaching of the Russian women's handball national team, which won the 2001 , 2005 , 2007 and 2009 World Cup. Further successes were the Vice European Championships in 2006 and 2018 and the Olympic silver medal in 2008 . In September 2012 he was released from his duties. In September 2013, the Russian handball federation announced that Trefilow would once again take over as coach of the women's national team. In 2016 Russia became Olympic champion under his leadership.
After Trefilow suffered from heart problems in February 2019, he underwent an operation and took a three-month break. In August 2019 he gave up his coaching positions at Kuban Krasnodar and the Russian selection. He then took over the post of Vice President of the Russian handball band.
Trefilow was considered an authoritarian coach who often reacted very emotionally during the game.
