Nikola Bonew

Nikola Bonew , actually Nikola Bonow Iwanow ( Bulgarian Никола Бонев ; born February 11, 1898 in Stara Sagora , † June 18, 1979 in Sofia ) was a Bulgarian astronomer .

Life

Bonew studied mathematics and physics at Sofia University . Further studies followed from 1924 to 1926 at the Sorbonne in Paris and at the Paris Observatory and from 1926 to 1928 at the Geodetic Institute in Potsdam .

From 1928 to 1966 he was director of the Sofia University Observatory . From 1937 he was also active as a professor from the University of Sofia. Bonew was a member of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences . From 1961 to 1963 he was vice chairman of the Paris-based International Astronautical Federation .

In his scientific work he dealt with cosmogony and devoted himself to researching the cause of the lunar craters . He also dealt with the solution of geodetic problems.
