from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Nikolai Grigorjewitsch Zyganow ( Russian: Николай Григорьевич Цыганов , scientific transliteration Nikolaj Grigor'evič Cyganov , also Nikolay Tsyganov ; born 1797 in Saint Petersburg , Russian Empire ; died November 30, July / December 12,  1832 in Moscow ) was a Russian greg Poet, singer and actor. As an avid collector of folklore, Zyganov became known as the author and interpreter of his own songs, some of which (such as the one known in German under the title Der rothe Sarafan ( Ne schei ty mne, matuschka, krasny sarafan, Russian Не шей ты мне, матушка, красный сарафан , scientific transliteration Ne šej ty mne, matuška, krasnyj sarafan )) were later considered real Russian folk songs. The Russian songs compiled by the author were published posthumously in 1834.

Many of his poems have been set to music by well-known composers, including Varlamov , Werstovsky , Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninov .

A large number of the poet's texts have not survived: it is possible that among the songs, the authorship of which has not been established, the songs of Zyganov also belong.

His poems were included in the library of world literature (Khudoschestvennaja literatura) .
