Nikolai Wassiljewitsch Karpol ( Russian: Николай Васильевич Карполь , English transcription: Nikolay Vasiliyevich Karpol ; born May 1, 1938 in Bereznitsa , Polesian Voivodeship , Poland ) is a Soviet-Russian volleyball coach . He is the most honored coach worldwide in volleyball and nationally in all team sports.

Karpol has been the head coach of VK Uralotschka-NTMK in Sverdlovsk / Yekaterinburg since 1969 . Under his leadership, the women developed into a world class team and won eight European and 25 national titles. With the national team, which largely consisted of Uralochka players, Karpol won Olympic gold under the Soviet and Russian flags in 1980 and 1988, as well as Olympic silver medals in 1992 , 2000 and 2004 , in 1990 world championship gold and in 1994, 1998 and 2002 bronze, and in the 1997 World Cup gold and bronze in 1993, at the World Grand Prix gold in 1997, 1999 and 2002, silver in 1998, 2000 and 2003 and bronze in 1993, 1996, 2001 and was European champion seven times .

In 2009 Karpol was inducted into the " Volleyball Hall of Fame ".
