Nikolai Reek

Nikolai Reek ( Russian Николай Реэк * January 20 jul. / 1. February  1890 greg. In Tallinn , † 8. May 1942 at Ussolje , Oblast Molotov ) was Estonian Lieutenant General and Minister of Defense of the Republic of Estonia (from 1927 to 1928 and 1939 to 1940 ).

Life

Reek participated as a soldier in the Russian army in the First World War in part and received a general staff training at the Russian Military Academy in Saint Petersburg .

In the Estonian War of Independence (1918-1920) against Soviet Russia , he served as Chief of Staff in the 1st and later the 3rd Estonian Division. Reek was the Estonian representative during the Strasdenhof Armistice negotiations (1919). He was awarded the Freedom Cross of Estonia , the Latvian Bear Slayer Order and the Estonian Order of the White Star .

After the Soviet occupation of the three Baltic republics in 1940, Reek was arrested and killed in custody in the Gulag .
