Nikolaus Barward Mentze

Nikolaus Barward Mentze (* 1719 in Lübeck ; † May 6, 1766 there ) was a Lübeck merchant and councilor.

Life

Mentze's father of the same name, a Lübeck merchant, died in 1724. The family was originally based in Braunschweig and had come to Lübeck generations earlier. Mentze initially worked in the business of the Hamburg merchant Johann Jakob Boutin . Since 1749 he ran a "velvet and silk manufacture" in Lübeck under the company "Nicol. Barward Mentze & Comp. ”And was elected to the city council in 1763 as the elder of the Novgorod drivers.

He was married to Magdalena Margaretha geb. Rodde , daughter of the mayor of Lübeck Mattheus Rodde . The later Lübeck councilor Ludwig Mentze was a son of the two. Johann Daniel Overbeck wrote his funeral speech.
