Life
Rodde, who came from the old Lübeck merchant family Rodde , undertook extensive trade trips as a young merchant from 1697, which took him to Stockholm and Holland , among other places . In 1735 he was elected to the council , in 1757 he became one of the mayors of Lübeck. During his term of office as councilor, the self-completion of the Lübeck council, forced by the citizens, fell in 1739 . In 1745 he, together with Heinrich Balemann , Heinrich Rust and Hermann Woldt, had the big bell of the Holy Spirit Hospital cast over by the council founder Lorenz Strahlborn and his son Dietrich.
Rodde was married to a daughter of Peter Hinrich Tesdorpf. His son Mattheus Rodde (1724–1783) also became councilor in Lübeck; his daughter Magdalena Margaretha married the Lübeck councilor Nikolaus Barward Mentze . One of his grandchildren, Mattheus Rodde (1754–1825), was Dorothea Schlözer's husband and also mayor. Johann Daniel Overbeck wrote his funeral speech in 1761.
