Thomas Morgan Woodward (born September 16, 1925 in Fort Worth , Texas - † February 22, 2019 in El Paso de Robles , California ) was an American actor .

life and career

The son of a doctor made his film debut in the 1956 western On A Secret Mission . Numerous films and television series followed, with westerns remaining his specialty. In these, the tall, athletic actor was often cast as a villain, but occasionally also as a law enforcement officer. In 1967 he starred alongside Paul Newman in the classic film The Unyielding as the silent "Boss Godfrey" who always wears sunglasses.

On television, he appeared in 19 episodes of the long-running television series Smoking Colts over a period of 17 years , which he holds the record for being the most frequent guest star on that series. At Raumschiff Enterprise he was a guest star in the episodes The Omega Glory and Dagger of the Mind . In Germany Woodward became famous mainly through his participation in the US series Dallas . There he played the role of the oil baron Punk Anderson , who has a kind of paternal advisory function for the young Ewing sons, in a total of 55 episodes between 1980 and 1987. In 1997, Morgan Woodward retired from acting after more than 125 film and television productions .

Woodward was married to Enid Anne Loftis from 1950, the couple had one child. In 1988 he received the Golden Boot Award for his life's work. The actor died at his California home in February 2019, aged 93.
