Peter Hinrich Tesdorpf (born November 21, 1648 in Schwartau , † December 27, 1723 in Lübeck ) was a long-distance trade merchant and mayor of the Hanseatic city of Lübeck.

Life

Peter Hinrich was the son of a clerk of the Lübeck prince-bishop Johann , who maintained a farmyard on the Kaltenhof near today's Bad Schwartau five kilometers north of Lübeck on the Trave . After a commercial apprenticeship and subsequent activity in the shop of Matthäus Rodde , after his death in 1678 he went into business for himself as a merchant in Lübeck with good success in the wine trade . Business with Portugal via Lisbon was a focus of his trade. In 1703 he was elected to the city council. From 1704 to 1706 he was the builder and in 1715 was appointed mayor of the city by the council.

Peter Hinrich Tesdorpf was married twice. He was buried in the side chapel of the Marienkirche in Lübeck, which he acquired in 1714 for 1,300 marks . Its Rococo- style epitaph with Latin inscription was preserved on the south wall of the south porch despite the destruction of the church during the air raid on Palm Sunday 1942 . The Carl Tesdorpf company is now Germany's oldest wine trading company.
