Nicholas stool

Nikolaus Hocker (born March 22, 1822 in Neumagen-Dhron , † December 21, 1900 in Cologne ) was an editor , diplomat, poet and author of numerous historical and regional works.

Life

Nikolaus Hocker was to embark on a military career as an officer. However, since he felt the inclination to study history and literature and to write , he left the military in 1842 to study German in Tübingen . After completing his studies, in 1849 he became editor of the "Saar- und Moselzeitung" in Trier . He later headed the "Düsseldorfer Journal", then moved to Cologne in 1857, where he took over the management of the "Kölner Nachrichten". Because of his economic work " The Big Industry of the Rhineland and Westphalia ", Hocker was appointed Chancellor of the Austro-Hungarian Consulate General in Cologne. He was deeply friends with the Brothers Grimm and with Karl Simrock .

Nikolaus Hocker's literary work is very diverse. In addition to lyrical works , he published travel books on the Moselle and Rhine regions as well as a number of historical works that dealt with the ruling dynasty of the princes and modern German history. He also made numerous contributions with mythological and cultural-historical content, which earned him his doctorate in Tübingen in 1857. For his friend Jacob Grimm collected stool Weis Hallows .
