Nikolaus Lanner

Nikolaus Lanner (born September 2, 1932 in Liesing , Carinthia ) is a former Austrian politician ( ÖVP ).

Life

After attending primary school , Nikolaus Lanner attended the Bundesrealgymnasium in Klagenfurt am Wörthersee , where he graduated from high school in 1960 . He then studied, and did not take the teaching examination until 1969 .

Within his party, the ÖVP, Lanner belonged to the Bauernbund , where he began his career in 1960 as an employee . In 1969 he was elected head of the Carinthian regional organization. Five years earlier, in 1965, he became local party chairman of the ÖVP in Maria Wörth . In 1980 he was elected district chairman of the Klagenfurt-Land district .

In 1970 Lanner was elected mayor of Maria Wörth, an office which he held for 27 years until 1997.

In March 1982 he was sworn in as a member of the Federal Council in Vienna . He was a member of the regional chamber for one year, until March 1983. In July of the same year, he entered the Carinthian state parliament as a VP deputy . At the same time he was elected club chairman (parliamentary group leader) of his party. Lanner was a member of the state parliament for eleven years, until April 1994.
