Nicholas painter

Nicholas painter (born 1972 in Hamburg ) is principal bassoonist in the State Rheinische Philharmonie in Koblenz and professor of bassoon at the Nuremberg Academy of Music .

He was trained by Thomas Starke in Lübeck (preliminary course), Klaus Thunemann in Berlin (orchestral diploma) and Dag Jensen in Hanover (concert exam). Masterclasses with Sergio Azzolini in Bobbio / Italy and his time as a Karajan academician with the Berlin Philharmonic were particularly formative for him .

During this time and as a member of the Federal Youth Orchestra and the European Youth Orchestra (1992–1997) Nikolaus Maler performed under well-known conductors such as Claudio Abbado , Daniel Barenboim , Lorin Maazel , Seiji Ozawa , Kurt Masur , Christoph Eschenbach , James Levine , Bernard Haitink , Vladimir Ashkenazy or Mstislav Rostropovich .

Due to successful participation in competitions, painters have received various awards, including a. the Federal President's scholarship at the German University Competition and - twice in a row - a scholarship from the German Music Competition , where he was included in the national selection of concerts by young artists in 1995.

Nikolaus Maler received a scholarship from Villa Musica and Live Music Now and is a founding member of the Da Ponte Wind Octet.

From 2005 to 2014, Maler taught at the Musikhochschule in Frankfurter am Main before he was appointed professor at the Nuremberg University of Music in 2014 .

As an editor of bassoon literature, Maler works with Accolade Music Publishing.
