Nikolaus Stark

Nikolaus Stark (born May 28, 1931 in Geislingen am Ries ) is a German Catholic priest and artist.

Life

Nikolaus Stark was born on May 28, 1931 in Geislingen am Ries (municipality of Unterschneidheim ). He attended high school in Ellwangen (Jagst) , where he met his future artistic teacher Helmut Esdar, with whom he was a close friend until his death in 1982.

After high school he entered the seminary of the Rottenburg-Stuttgart diocese ; 1957 ordained a priest, together with Walter Kasper .

From 1971 he was pastor in Bollingen . There he developed a lively artistic activity, in particular with the conception and realization of the interior of the All Saints Church (Lehr) , 1973–1974.

From 1984 he worked as a pastor in Dewangen . Nikolaus Stark is now retired. He lives and works in Wallerstein . Several exhibitions in the East Württemberg region showed his pictures.

On his 80th birthday, Auxiliary Bishop Johannes Kreidler, on behalf of the Rottenburg-Stuttgart diocese, paid tribute to the work of Nikolaus Stark as “creative pastoral care”.

Selection of works

  • Church Precious Blood in Nebringen : 10 murals about the Eucharist (1964), choir picture Gethsemane (1966) [now canceled].
  • All Saints Church (Lehr) : sculptures, bronze sculptures, frescoes, murals, cycle of stained glass windows (1973–1974, 1984).
  • Heilig-Geist-Kapelle in the Bundeswehr Hospital Ulm : Murals (1979/81) [meanwhile destroyed].
  • St. Josef's Chapel in Rississen (1983)
  • Parish hall of St. Martin in Mähringen (Ulm) : winged altarpiece (1990).
  • St. Ottmars Chapel in Aalen-Reichenbach : mural in the entrance area
  • 17 frescoes in the niches of the cemetery near St. Alban in Wallerstein (2005).

Stark's preferred technique are individual pictures in watercolor and (based on Matthias Grünewald's model ) casein paint . His works were mainly devoted to biblical and theological subjects, but also to the landscape and flowers. Stark always did his big jobs on a voluntary basis during his summer vacation.

Pastor Nikolaus Stark Foundation

In 2006, Nikolaus Stark founded the Pfarrer-Nikolaus-Stark-Stiftung, an independent sub-foundation under the umbrella of the Wegzeichen - Lebenszeichen - Glaubenszeichen Foundation , which is a non-profit, ecclesiastical foundation of the Rottenburg-Stuttgart diocese .

The foundation charter states: “The purpose of the foundation is to use the works of art by the founder, Pastor Nikolaus Stark, to serve religious proclamation, to promote general education and culture and to financially support the tasks of the foundation 'Wegzeichen - Lebenszeichen - Glaubenszeichen'. The artistic work should be made known to a wider public. "
