Nikolaus Zmeskall

Nikolaus Zmeskall von Domanovecz (born November 20, 1759 in Unterkubin , then Upper Hungary , † June 23, 1833 in Vienna ) was an Austro-Hungarian civil servant and composer .

Life

Zmeskall was a civil servant in the Hungarian court chancellery in Vienna from 1784 to 1825 and one of Ludwig van Beethoven's closest friends . He played the cello himself and left behind several string quartets .

He is the recipient of Haydn's string quartets op. 20 ( Artaria new edition from 1800) and of Beethoven's string quartet in F minor op. 95 (1810/11, printed 1816). Anton Halm also dedicated his Sonata for Piano and Violoncello Op. 52 (after 1824) to him.
