Nicholas of Jerozhin

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Nikolaus von Jeroschin , also Nicolaus von Jeroschin ( Latin Nicolaus de Jeroschin ) was a Prussian chronicler of the Middle Ages .

meaning

Nikolaus von Jeroschin lived in the 14th century as the chaplain of the Grand Master of the Teutonic Order . In 1328 he translated the Vita Sancti Adalberti of Johannes Canaparius into German verses, then 1331–1335 at the instigation of Grand Master Luther of Braunschweig the Chronicon terrae Prussiae of Peter von Dusburg in 27,738 verses. He also devoted himself to the German rhyming chronicle, for example in Die Kronike von Pruzinlant the patroness of the Teutonic Order, the Virgin Mary . He has also added some independent additions, but they are not considerable. Because Peter von Dusburg's work has been preserved, the translation is of little historical value, although the German Jeroschin was translated back into Latin in the Middle Ages. On the other hand, Jerozhin is important in a linguistic relationship (he wrote East Central German). The Kronike was printed in 1861. Walther Ziesemer received his doctorate with a dissertation on "Nicolaus von Jeroschin and his source".
