Nils Patrik Johansson (born October 14, 1967 in Borlänge ) is a Swedish singer with a tenor tone . He gained fame as the front man of the metal band Astral Doors and the power metal band Civil War .

Life

In 2003 Johansson founded the hard rock and metal formation Astral Doors together with Joachim Nordlund and Johan Lindstedt. For the band he writes the lyrics and vocal melodies. Since 2003 he has also been the singer of the Danish progressive metal band Wuthering Heights . He was also a member of Richard Andersson's Space Odyssey in 2003 and 2005 and is a member of Lion's Share.

When Rikard Sundén , Oskar Montelius, Daniel Mullback and Daniel Mÿhr broke up with Sabaton in 2012 , Johansson contacted them to start the band Civil War with Stefan "Pizza" Eriksson and the four. The band's name comes from Johansson, he also wrote all of the band's lyrics and composed most of the pieces.

Three concept albums were created by 2016 and Johansson left the group a year later. All band members were involved as producers on the EP Civil War and the album The Killer Angels . At his exit he remarked:

“I left Civil War. You need to tour more and I'm not the man for it because of my work and my family situation. I gave them some of my best songs and almost five years of my life. I love her, but everything comes to an end. I hope you find a new singer who will carry on my legacy and the spirit of Civil War. If you don't find a new singer in time, I will of course still take part in the shows that have already been booked if you want. I will now concentrate on Astral Doors, and perhaps more importantly, write a follow-up to Lion's Shares 'Dark Hours'! "

Johansson has a strong historical interest, which is reflected in all of the lyrics for Civil War and in many of the lyrics for Astral Doors and his solo project, as well as in Wounded Kne , which Thobbe Englund released on his solo album Sold My Soul in 2017 . Religious topics can also be found again and again in his texts.

Johansson is married. In addition to his work as a singer, he has another professional activity that is also linked to music. Besides Ronnie James Dio , his favorite singers are David Coverdale , Ian Gillan , Tony Martin and Russel Allen .

Johansson's son Nils Fredrik Johansson is a drummer and plays in the thrash metal band Tuck from Hell.
