Astral Doors is the name of a hard rock - and heavy metal - band , the 2003 Borlänge in Sweden was established. Astral Doors have been under contract with the German-Spanish label Locomotive Records since it was founded .
history
The 2003 debut album Of the Son and the Father was recorded in the “ Big Turn ” studio owned by the guitarist Joachim Nordlund. It was mixed by, among others, Peter Tägegren , who already worked for Dimmu Borgir , Immortal and other well-known bands. The album reached fifth place in German rock-hard magazine and Astral Doors achieved great fame practically overnight - also outside of Sweden. The cover picture of the album showed people crucified, which meant that those responsible from Japan refused to bring it to market with this motif. A new artwork was designed, whereupon the album came out in Japan in a new guise and under a new name ( Cloudbreaker ). This was followed in 2004 by appearances at the Wacken Open Air and the Sweden Rock Festival , two festivals that are very important in the metal scene .
In 2004 the follow-up album Evil is Forever was recorded and mixed again by Peter Tägtgren. The name alludes to the James Bond theme song Diamonds are Forever , but the title runs like a red thread through the entire album. After the release in 2005 followed in the spring of the same year a tour together with Stormhammer in the opening act of the German band Grave Digger .
In the same year, work began on the EP Raiders of the Ark , which should shorten the time for fans until the Astralism album, which was released in spring 2006. In September 2006 Astral Doors went on tour with Blind Guardian .
In February and March 2012, the band went on a European tour with Riotgod to promote their 2011 album Jerusalem .
In August 2014 the album Notes from the Shadows was released, in April 2017 Black Eyed Children was released .
style
Even before the band was founded, the founding members wrote songs that were closely based on their role models Black Sabbath (during the time with Ozzy Osbourne ). In the official albums you can also hear clear connections to rock bands of the 1970s and 1980s such as Deep Purple and especially Dio . The connection with the latter band can be found very clearly in Johansson's singing style, which is very similar to that of Ronnie James Dio .
