Wuthering Heights is a Danish metal band from Copenhagen that play a mix of Progressive Metal , Folk Metal , and Power Metal .

history

The band was founded in 1989 under the name Angelica , but for the first demo cassette ( Tales from the Woods ) at the end of 1992 they changed their name to Minas Tirith . Before the recording for the second demo in 1995, the band name was changed to Vergelmir , and the band was renamed to Wuthering Heights . The album Within was released under this name in 1999 , followed by To Travel For Evermore in 2002 and Far From the Madding Crowd in 2004. The first appearance outside Europe followed in summer 2004 at the ProgPower Festival in Atlanta . Film recordings of this performance should initially be added to the fourth album as a bonus DVD, but it was decided to use a bonus live CD instead. This fourth release by the band in 2006 was called The Shadow Cabinet . The only remaining founding member of the band, currently under contract with Locomotive Records , is Erik Ravn. In March 2011, due to Ravn's back problems, the band was put on hold indefinitely, but not disbanded. In December 2015, Ravn announced that they would re-release the entire discography of Wuthering Heights with new recordings and new material. The band began with the first demo recordings of a new song in October 2016. In addition to a new project called Beltane Born, announced in November 2018, work on the re-release continued steadily. In December 2019, Ravn wrote that the work would be completed soon and that it would be published in the coming year.

style

music

The style played by the band combines elements of several metal directions, traditional heavy metal , power metal and speed metal are combined with influences from folk . Instruments used are, for example, the bagpipes , violin and flute . Characteristic for the Power Metal part of the pieces are also distinctive melodies and clean vocals . The band is often attributed to progressive metal , but musical neighbors are more Falconer and Elvenking .

Texts

Wuthering Heights often write about Tolkien- influenced fantasy (sometimes referring to places and creatures in Tolkien's world) and folklore, with an emphasis on nature issues. References to the 19th century are hardly present in the texts, although one might infer this from the band name, which is based on the work Wuthering Heights by British author Emily Brontë published in 1847 . The title of the third album Far From the Madding Crowd is also based on the work of the same name by the writer Thomas Hardy .
