Nimrod Speaks

Nimrod Speaks (* around 1985 in Philadelphia ) is an American jazz musician ( double bass ).

Live and act

Originally from Philadelphia , Speaks began playing Fender bass when he was 16; in college he switched to the double bass. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in music education from Kutztown University of Pennsylvania in Kutztown , and a Masters in Jazz Studies from Rutgers University . He had lessons a. a. with Conrad Herwig , Mike Richmond , Victor Lewis , Vic Juris and Stanley Cowell . Since then he has worked a. a. with Boostie Barnes , Ronnie Burrage , Doc Gibbs and Hannibal Lokumbe , with whom he appeared in New York and Philadelphia, but also toured with Greg Osby and Dee Dee Bridgewater . With Burrage's Trio Holographic Principle he released the album Dance of the Great Spirit (2019), for which he also composed. He can also be heard on albums by Barbara Barrett, Luke O'Reilly, and the Kutztown University Jazz Ensemble .

Speaks teaches double bass and electric bass at Eastern University in St. Davids, Pennsylvania. Currently (2018) he leads his own trio, which includes Andrew Atkinson (drums) and Anthony Ware (saxophone).
