Ronnie Burrage

Ronnie Burrage (born October 19, 1959 in St. Louis / Missouri ) is an American jazz drummer.

Life

Burrage, son of a pianist, graduated from North Texas State University . He was a drummer in various funk bands and, as a member of the St. Louis Metropolitan Jazz Quintet, accompanied musicians such as Arthur Blythe , Jackie McLean , Andrew Hill and McCoy Tyner during their performances in St. Louis. With McCoy Tyner he went on an international tour between 1980 and 1983. He then toured North America with Sonny Rollins and Pat Metheny . In 1984 he played with Jaco Pastorius .

In the mid-1980s, Burrage was a member of Woody Shaw's quintet. In 1986 he founded the group Third Kind of Blue with John Purcell and Anthony Cox . He also recorded an album with Barbara Dennerlein and worked with Michal Urbaniak , Ray Anderson and Abdullah Ibrahim . Since the 1990s he has led the band Burrage , with whom he toured the USA, Europe and Japan. He continued to work with musicians such as Joanne Brackeen , Jack Walrath , Sonny Fortune , Courtney Pine , Joe Zawinul , Archie Shepp , Monty Waters and Gary Thomas , but also with The Firm by Reggie Workman and Ernie Watts . In the field of jazz, according to Tom Lord , he was involved in 99 recording sessions between 1972 + 9 and 2016, most recently with his project Ronnie Burrage and Holographic Principle .
