Charnett Moffett (* 10. June 1967 in New York City ) is an American jazz - bassist .

Moffett is the son of Charles Moffett , who became known as a member of the Ornette Coleman Trio and leader of the Moffett Family Band . In 1974 he took part in a recording of the Moffett Family Band for the first time and took part in a tour of Japan the following year. He attended the Fiorello H. La Guardia High School for the Music and Arts in New York City, the Mannes College of Music, and finally the Juilliard School of Music . In 1983 he became a member of the Wynton Marsalis Quintet and later the group Black Codes (From the Underground) . During that time he also worked with Stanley Jordan , the Manhattan Jazz Quintet and Tony Williams .
