Nina Henriette Wendeline Ellinger Bang (born October 6, 1866 in Copenhagen ; † March 25, 1928 there ) was a Danish social democratic politician and the first female Danish minister.

Life and political career

Nina Ellinger was the daughter of the conservative music director (horn player) and war councilor Ellinger. She studied history and finished her studies in 1894. In 1895 she married the historian Gustav Bang, who died in 1915. As a student, she joined the social democratic party . From 1903 to 1928 she was a member of the party executive in the Social Democratic Association and from 1918 a member of the Landsting , the first chamber of the Reichstag. Nina Bang worked as a journalist for the main body of the Danish social democracy "Social-Demokrats", where she worked on political, historical and economic topics; u. a. she wrote a biography about Karl Marx ("Karl Marx, his life and work"). From 1913 to 1918 she was a city councilor in Copenhagen , and from April 23, 1924 to December 14, 1926, Minister for Education in Thorvald Stauning's cabinet . In the last years of her life she devoted herself to historical and economic work; an investigation into the scope and effect of the Öresund customs ("Tables on shipping and the transport of goods through the Oeresund 1497 to 1660"). In 1928 she died of a heart condition.
