Nina Nesbitt (born July 11, 1994 in Edinburgh ) is a Scottish singer and songwriter .

life and career

Nesbitt is the daughter of a Swede and a Scotsman. She grew up in Edinburgh, was a student at Balerno Community High School and studied music at Edinburgh's Stephenson College. Her career began by recording her own songs as well as cover versions of other songs in her own room and uploading them to the Internet platform YouTube . When she met the British singer Ed Sheeran , she was invited by him to appear in the opening act at some of his concerts; later she accompanied him on his European tour. She also played a role in the singer's music video for the song Drunk . She also opened three concerts in December 2011 for the musician Example , who was enthusiastic about her version of his song Stay Awake . In 2012 Nesbitt founded her own record company N² Records, which released The Apple Tree EP . In June 2012 she signed a recording deal with Universal Records .

Nesbitt's first EP Live Take EP was released on December 5th, 2011 and contains four songs (in live versions) and a "hidden track". Except for the song Babylon by David Gray , all the songs were written by herself.

Her second EP, The Apple Tree EP , was released on April 23, 2012 and contains five songs. The EP reached number 6 on the UK iTunes download charts and number 1 on the UK singer / songwriter charts.
