Nino Longobardi

Nino Longobardi (born November 30, 1953 in Naples , Italy ) is an Italian painter , draftsman and object artist and one of the protagonists of Italian painting of the 20th century. His work is characterized by strict, almost minimalist forms, it deals with the human form and death.

Live and act

Nino Longobardi, who was born in Naples, trained himself through visits to leading art galleries and exhibitions such as those of Carlo Alfano , Lucio Amelio and Achille Bonito Oliva . In 1969 he met Lucio Amelio and became friends with him, which lasted until his death in 1994. In 1978 his first solo exhibition took place in the studio of the artist Gianni Pisani .

After the severe earthquake in Naples in November 1980, Amelio organized a series of exhibitions over several years entitled Terrae Motus , with works by more than 50 international artists on the theme of earthquakes. In addition to works by artists such as Joseph Beuys , Keith Haring , Mimmo Paladino and Andy Warhol , Longobardi's Senza titolo was also exhibited in 1983 .

Since the early 1980s, Longobardi has participated in numerous international exhibitions, including the Guggenheim Museum in New York in 1982, the Fundació Joan Miró in Barcelona in 1983, the National Gallery in 1986 in Berlin and the Grand Palais in Paris in 1987. In Italy, his works were shown in 1998 in the Royal Palace of Milan , in 1999 in the Castel Nuovo in Naples, in 2000 in the Galleria Civica di Modena and in 2001 in the National Archaeological Museum of Naples. His installation Le quattro giornate di Napoli (2000) adorns the Quattro Giornate metro station , which is part of the Metrò dell'Arte (art subway). Longobardi has his studio in the famous Palazzo Tarsia in the historic center of Naples.
