Nippon Zeon KK ( Japanese 日本 ゼ オ ン 株式会社 , Nippon Zeon Kabushiki kaisha , English Zeon Corporation ) is a Japanese chemical company that belongs to the Furukawa Group . Zeon manufactures various elastomers and specialty chemicals based on the C4 and C5 fractions. The products include cyclo-olefin copolymers , C5 hydrocarbon resins , flavorings such as. B. leaf alcohol , the solvent cyclopentyl methyl ether and battery binders.

history

Nippon Zeon was founded in April 1950 as a joint venture between Nihon Keikinzoku (Nippon Light Metal), Furukawa Denki Kōgyō (Furukawa Electric) and Yokohama Gomu (Yokohama Rubber) to produce vinyl chloride resin Geon (pronounced Zeon in Japanese) under license from BF Goodrich Chemicals was also involved with 35%. In 1970, Goodrich completely transferred its synthetic rubber business to the company and withdrew, so that in 1971 the transcription of the name was changed from Geon to Zeon.

In 1959 Japan's first synthetic rubber is produced, and in 1965 the production of butadiene and styrene-butadiene rubber begins . In 1971 the name was changed to "ZEON".

In 1989 the company took over the synthetic rubber division of the former idea generator BF Goodrich. After acquiring Goodyear's nitrile rubber business in 1999, Zeon is the world's largest producer of nitrile rubber .
