The Nizhnyaya Toima ( Russian Нижняя Тойма ("Lower Toima")) is a right tributary of the Northern Dvina in the Russian Arkhangelsk Oblast .
It runs in the hilly plains east of the course of the Northern Dvina in a predominantly south-westerly direction. The Nizhnyaya Toima reaches its confluence with the Northern Dvina after 165 km. It drains an area of 1740 km². At the level 34 km above the mouth, the mean discharge is 18 m³ / s. The river is mainly fed by the snowmelt . In May it leads to regular floods . It is covered with ice between November and the end of April. In the upper reaches, the Nizhnyaya Toima flows through an uninhabited area. There are some smaller settlements on the lower reaches. The river was previously used for rafting .
On the Northern Dvina, 47 km upstream from the mouth of the Nizhnyaya Toima, lies the small town of Verkhnyaya Toima ("Upper Toima") at the confluence of the river of the same name .
