Marta Noemí del Espíritu Santo Sanín Posada de Rubio (born June 6, 1949 in Medellín , Antioquia ) is a Colombian diplomat and politician who was a presidential candidate several times .

biography

After attending school, the daughter of the writer, editor and university professor Jaime Sanín Echeverry studied law , social and economic science at the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana and then worked as a lawyer . She specialized in commercial and finance law and was also a fellow at Harvard University .

She then worked in the private sector and initially became Vice President for Loans and Operations at the financial company Colmena in 1976 . In 1978 she became President of Colmena, making her the first female CEO of such a financial institution in Latin America . In 1983 she was appointed Minister of Communications by President Belisario Betancur and held this position until the end of Betancur's tenure in 1986. Later, from 1988 to 1990, she was President of Corporación Financiera Colombiana , an organization that supports companies from various economic sectors.

In 1990 she was appointed ambassador to Venezuela . However, from that office one year was called out and instead in 1991 by President César Gaviria to Secretary appointed. After the end of President Gaviria's term of office, she was again ambassador to Venezuela between 1994 and 1998.
