history

In 1841, when the border with the United States ran even further north, the Mexican government gave the land to a family named Elías. With the Gadsden purchase in 1853, the northern half of the area came to the United States. Two brothers of Russian descent, Jacob and Isaac Isaacson, set up a trading post on the border that was named Nogales by the United States Postal Service in 1880 .
