Noilly Prat [ nwaˈji pʁat ] is a French vermouth based on two white wines ( Clairette and Picpoul de Pinet ) from the south of France and, to round off the sweetness, the mistela , imported from Andalusia . Noilly Prat is considered more aromatic than other vermouth wines; For example, only a small amount is required for flavoring.

The company and the factory outlet are located in Marseillan in the south of France .

The name comes from Joseph Noilly, who developed the recipe, and Claudius Prat, who became the company's partner. Noilly Prat was founded in Lyon in 1813 and moved to Marseille in 1843 . The company has been in Marseillan since 1853 . In connection with the move to the vicinity of the sea and the use of grapes from the surrounding area, the recipe that is still known today dates from this year.

While Antonio Benedetto Carpano can claim to have produced the first Italian (sweet) vermouth, this fame goes to Noilly Prat for the first French (dry) vermouth. Noilly Prat was first exported to the USA in 1853, where it is still the leading French vermouth today. In 1971 the company was bought by Martini & Rossi , which in turn was acquired by Bacardi in 1993 . Today Noilly Prat is run by François Bonnardel, a great-great-grandson of the Noilly-Prat founder. The distribution in Germany is carried out by Bacardi Germany .

Noilly Prat is stored in oak barrels - including one year in the open air. In addition to the French Extra Dry, Noilly Prat produces the two delicately sweet varieties, Rouge and Blanc. The Ambre version is relatively new, but is only sold in the region. The aroma is slightly chocolaty. Others describe it as spicy and sweet. It can be enjoyed both cold and at room temperature.
