The Nokia 3310 is a mobile phone from Nokia . It was announced on September 1, 2000 and released in the fourth quarter of 2000.

At the beginning of 2017, HMD Global , which had acquired the trademark rights for Nokia phones the year before, launched a new version as a retro model.

description

The 3310 was the successor to the very successful Nokia 3210 . The main innovations were the lower weight, the integrated vibration alarm and the larger storage space for ring tones . In addition, the 3310 could be equipped with a lithium-ion battery, which reduced the weight of the mobile phone and significantly shortened the charging time.

Nokia 3330

The Nokia 3310 was very popular, but could not match the sales of its predecessor. By the time it was discontinued in 2005, it was sold a total of 126 million times, while the predecessor 3210 had sold over 160 million units. It was one of the first cell phones that could be used to send linked text messages. By combining up to three SMS texts with up to 459 characters instead of the usual 160 characters, such SMS can be billed accordingly by the network operator as up to three SMS.

In addition to the picture messages, which can also be used as a screen saver, there is a reminder function and the four games Snake II, Pairs II, Space Impact and Bantumi.

The display shows a maximum of five lines of 16 characters each. The mobile phone has a vibration alarm and 35 predefined monophonic ring tones. Ringtones could be downloaded to the mobile phone or written using the ringtone editor. Another new feature was a chat function that displays the SMS in chat form.

With this mobile phone, the contacts are only stored on the SIM card . Their number was severely limited, since SIM cards could usually only store 100 contacts when the device appeared. Modern SIM cards have significantly larger memories, which means that the lack of a telephone book in the device would be less of a problem today.

The mobile phone supports voice dialing for up to eight defined numbers. Xpress-on ™ covers make it easy to change the upper shell.

Successor models

The 3330 was delivered later, technically identical to the 3310, but with extended software: The biggest innovation was the WAP -1.1 capability. It also had an integrated phone book for 100 contacts, a new bumper game including online high score via WAP, an option to vibrate before the doorbell and animated screensavers, which, however, could not be exchanged via picture messages.

The Nokia 3410 and Nokia 3510 can be described as successor models.

New model 2017

On February 26, 2017, Nokia presented a dual SIM mobile phone based on the design of the original 3310 at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona . This comes with a color display in QVGA resolution (320 × 240) and the option of expanding the internal memory up to 32 GB using a microSD card. A camera with an LED flash was also installed for the first time, with photos reaching a resolution of two megapixels. The new edition of the Nokia 3310 was launched in the second quarter of 2017 and costs around 60 euros.
