Nolana coelestis is a species of the genus Nolana inthe nightshade family (Solanaceae).
description
Nolana coelestis is a 30 to 50 cm high, perennial shrub with upright, diverging, furrowed stems . It is leafy and hairy with sticky, simple and branched, glandular and non-glandular trichomes . The leaves are 3 to 10 mm long, alternate and are linear or heather-like.
The flowers stand individually on 1 cm long peduncles . The calyx is about 8 mm long, bell-shaped and set with five awl-shaped teeth, the edge is rolled back. The crown is about 3 cm long, light blue and funnel-shaped. The stamens come in two different forms. The longer ones are about 14 mm long, the shorter ones 12 mm. The stamens are widened and sticky hairy at the base . The flower base is bowl-shaped and has a curved edge. The stylus is above and stands over the stamens.
The fruits consist of three sub-fruits, each containing a large number of seeds .
Occurrence
Nolana coelestis occurs in the Chilean regions of Atacama to Coquimbo and grows there near the coast at heights between 100 and 800 m.
