The Noppenspitze is a 2594 meter high rocky peak in the central part of the Hornbach range in the Allgäu Alps .

Location and surroundings

Its south-southeast ridge, characterized by well-developed spikes and slabs, separates the Sattelkar from the Noppenkar and throws up the grass ridge of the Häselgehrberg behind the Luxnacher Sattel. In the north, on the other hand, a steep wall over 300 meters high breaks off into the darkly wooded Hornbachtal .

First ascent

On August 16, 1890, the Noppenspitze was first climbed by Anton Spiehler and his guide Johann Schiffer . First reaching the main ridge of the Hornbach chain from the south from the Noppenkar, the two mountaineers crossed under the wild northern falls and from there completed the ascent of the summit.

Ascent

The Noppenspitze is a rarely climbed mountain. According to the summit book filed in 2006, there are only 5-15 ascents per year on average. To get to the highest point, you have to walk a long and long ascent with a total of around 1500 meters of altitude. In addition, the summit is not accessible and demands the careful, sure-footed and vertigo-free mountaineer, who can orientate himself well in the pathless and confusing terrain of the rocky southwest flank. The technical climbing difficulties are limited to the UIAA grade II on the normal route through the southwest flank .
