The Hornbachtal is a side valley of the Lech Valley in the Allgäu Alps in the Austrian state of Tyrol . At Vorderhornbach it branches off from the Lech Valley to the west and turns to the southwest after around 6 km. The Jochbachtal is the only larger side valley that branches off to the northwest. The Hornbachtal is the only inhabited left side valley of the middle Lech Valley and is traversed by the Hornbach .
In the north, the valley is bounded by a mountain range that extends from the Stallkarspitze ( 2350 m above sea level ) over the dominant Hochvogel ( 2592 m above sea level ) to the Öfnerspitze ( 2575 m above sea level ). The southern boundary to the Lechtal is formed by the Hornbach chain , which runs from the Öfnerspitze over the Marchspitze ( 2609 m above sea level ) and Urbeleskarspitze ( 2632 m above sea level ) to the Klimmspitze ( 2464 m above sea level ).
Approximately in the middle of the valley at 1101 m above sea level. A. is the only larger settlement Hinterhornbach , to whose municipal area a large part of the valley belongs. The rear Hornbachtal was not settled from the Lech Valley, but from the Allgäu over the Joche . Vorderhornbach is at the exit to the Lechtal . For a short time at the beginning of the 19th century, both places, which had previously belonged to different courts, were united in the municipality of Hornbach . The valley is accessed through the L264 state road (Hornbacher Straße).
