Noqui (also Nóqui , formerly Noki or Nokki ) is a small town and a district in northern Angola .

location

Noqui is located on the banks of the Congo River and on the border with the Democratic Republic of the Congo . The city of Matadi is right next to Noqui .

history

A German Congo expedition under Eduard Schulze acquired the area around Nokki (now Noqui) in 1884. The International Association ceded it in 1885, although the exact limits were not determined. However, it remained a German acquisition of territory without Reich protection . Chancellor Bismarck , who was currently hosting the Congo Conference in Berlin, withdrew all support from the company, and the area fell to Portugal at the end of the conference.

Noqui is the seat of a district of the same name ( Município ) in the province of Zaire . The district covers an area of ​​5275 km² with around 45,000 inhabitants (2014 estimate). From now on, the 2014 census should provide reliable population data.

The Noqui district is made up of three municipalities (Comunas):

economy

The district is strongly characterized by agriculture. The main crops are cassava with 430 hectares and peanuts with 162 hectares, plus citrus fruits and bananas , etc. a. (Status: spring 2014).
