Nora Exner came from one of the most famous academic families in ancient Austria. She was the daughter of Adolf Exner (1841-1894) and his wife Constanze Grohmann (1858-1922).

She studied from 1902 to 1905 at the Vienna School of Applied Arts with Alfred Roller , Kolo Moser and Franz Metzner , and also in Munich and Rome. Since 1906 she was married to the dermatologist Leo von Zumbusch .

Together with her one year younger cousin , Hilde Exner , and Franz Fiebiger , she designed woodcuts of animals for a picture book. She showed sculptures at the Vienna Art Show in 1908 . In 1913 she exhibited at the Miethke gallery in Vienna.

Like her cousin, the artist devoted herself to caring for the sick and wounded during the First World War - and, like Hilde Exner, became irredeemably infected. She was buried in an honorary grave at the Dornbacher Friedhof .
