Norbert Baumert

Norbert Baumert SJ (born July 24, 1932 in Penzig , Görlitz district ; † September 16, 2019 in Vienna ) was a German Roman Catholic clergyman , theologian and New Testament scholar .

Life

Norbert Baumert joined the Society of Jesus on Jakobsberg in 1952 and, after completing his philosophical and theological training in Pullach and Frankfurt, was ordained a priest in Berlin in 1961 . Among other things, he was a religion teacher at the Canisius College and the Liebfrauenschule in Berlin. From 1975 to 1977 he temporarily held the post of Vice Rector of the Canisius College. Since 1972 he was also a member of the Charismatic Movement , whose German branch he helped found and theologically supported.

After graduating as Dr. phil. In 1972 at the Free University of Berlin, he was a lecturer at the Philosophical-Theological University of Sankt Georgen in Frankfurt am Main from 1979 to 1985 and taught at the same university from 1985 to 2000 as professor of New Testament theology. His main focus was on the letters, language and theology of the Apostle Paul .

Since his retirement he lived in Vienna and published commentaries on the Pauline letters in the series "Paulus reread".
