Norbert Hagen

Norbert Hagen (born May 10, 1920 in Siegburg ; † May 13, 2013 in Kuppenheim ) was a German entrepreneur. He was a pioneer in the plastics industry .

Life

Norbert Hagen studied mechanical engineering . Together with his brother Reinold Hagen ( Kautex-Werke ), he experimented with the polyethylene that had come onto the market for plastics processing and developed the blow molding technology, which was patented in 1950. One of his inventions was a hollow plastic body, the blown plastic bottle . He withdrew from the Kautex factory that he had founded with his brother and founded the Rastatt plastic bottle factory , or Raku for short , in the 1950s with 900 employees. Numerous patents are associated with his name. In his works he was committed to Catholic social teaching .

Norbert Hagen got to know Konrad Adenauer through his brother Reinold and was a co-founder of the CDU in Siegburg, later chairman of the CDU in Kuppenheim . He was active as a city councilor, member of the board of trustees and parish council of St. Sebastian (1972–1990), board member of the Rastatt Caritas Association, board member of the Ötigheim adult education center and as a lay judge at the Rastatt district court.

In 1964 he was appointed Knight of the Order of Knights of the Holy Sepulcher by Cardinal Grand Master Eugène Cardinal Tisserant and invested in Aachen Cathedral on May 14, 1988 by Lorenz Jaeger , Grand Prior of the German Lieutenancy . From 1970 to 1991 he was Chief Commander of the Commandery St. Bernhard Rastatt. He was involved in numerous aid projects for the Holy Land . In 1967 he donated the "Norbert Bell" to the Catholic Church in Zarqa, Jordan . In 1997 he was appointed Grand Officer of the Order.

He was married to Ingeborg; the marriage resulted in four children.
