Norbert Hofmann (born January 1, 1972 in Mannheim ) is a former German soccer player .

Active career

As a youth, Hofmann played at the Mannheim district club TSV 47 Schönau, from where he moved to SV Waldhof Mannheim in 1989 at the age of 17 . After his relegation from the Bundesliga in 1990, Hofmann, who was described as nimble and game-intelligent, was taken to the training camp by coach Günter Sebert before the start of the season. As a result, he developed into a top performer at SV Waldhof in the 2nd Bundesliga . After the promotion was missed several times, Hofmann moved to VfL Bochum after relegation to the Regionalliga Süd in 1997 . In previous years, he had resisted offers from the Bundesliga, partly for family reasons. In Bochum he played under Klaus Toppmöller for two years . There injuries and, according to observers, a lack of ambition prevented the breakthrough. Hofmann then moved to 1. FC Saarbrücken , with whom he was promoted to the 2. Bundesliga after a year. After a total of three years in Saarland , the ambitious TSG 1899 Hoffenheim secured its services in 2002 . Hofmann could not prevail there and after two years switched to the second team. For the 2005/06 season he moved to FSV Oggersheim , where he ended his career after another season. Hofmann played 58 games in the first and 245 games in the second division as an attacking midfielder.
