Norbert Kraja

Norbert Kraja (born June 13, 1930 in Wołów, Silesia, † June 23, 2007 in Berlin ) was a German politician ( CDU ) in the GDR . From 1964 to 1970 he was chairman of the CDU district board in Halle and from 1979 to 1987 secretary of the Berlin Conference of European Catholics .

Life

After attending elementary school, Kraja completed training in agriculture from 1945 to 1947 and worked as an agricultural assistant from 1947 to 1949. In 1949 he became a member of the CDU and began studying agricultural science, which he completed in 1954 as a qualified farmer. From 1954 to 1962 he was a lecturer at the Technical School for Agriculture in Kamenz and at the same time chairman of the CDU district association Kamenz. From 1962 he was deputy chairman and from January 1964 to March 1970 chairman of the CDU district committee in Halle. At the 11th party congress of the CDU on October 3, 1964, he was elected as the successor candidate to the main board. From October 1972 (13th party congress) to October 1982 (15th party congress) he was a member of the CDU main board.

From May 7, 1970 to March 19, 1979 he was Secretary of the Peace Council of the GDR as the successor to Fritz Rick . In May 1974 he was elected a member of the Presidium of the Peace Council. From March 1979 to 1987 he acted as secretary of the Berlin Conference of European Catholics .
