Norbert Leduc (born November 3, 1924 in Merkstein ; † August 26, 2000 in Hoxel ) was the municipality director of the former municipality of Kommern from 1953 to 1969 , then until 1971 he held the same position in the former municipality of Veytal . He was also a local researcher, whose legacy is an important part of the Mechernich city archive .

Life

In 1953 he became the community director in Kommern. During his term of office the establishment of the Rheinisches Freilichtmuseum and the Hochwildpark Rheinland as well as the construction of the state horticultural show area around the Mühlensee in Kommern fall .

The creation of the mill park was one of his most important tasks. The Mühlensee goes back to a land consolidation procedure planned in 1954 and started in 1959, in which the Bleibach was dammed with its lead-containing sands in order to deposit the specifically heavier lead particles on the lake bed. With this, a remedy was found against the lead poisoning that occurs when the pastures are flooded, to which the cattle regularly fell victim to the meadows of the lower reaches of the Bleibach. The reservoir was officially referred to as the "lead sand settling basin" and was popularly known as the "lead sand trap". Leduc had been committed to the Mühlensee and was therefore planning a recreation park in the Mühlental, which in the 19th century was the location of the Pirath und Jung mining company, which later became the Kommerner Bergwerksaktien-Gesellschaft. The former administration building, which was used as a shelter for the homeless after the mining industry was shut down and was a social hot spot, was still located there, as well as a wild garbage dump and dumps with lead ore slag. In 1967, at Leduc's suggestion, the municipal council applied for a state horticultural show in the redesigned Mühlental, which was carried out in 1972. With the renovation of the industrial wasteland, Kommern was recognized as a climatic health resort .

The establishment of the Rhenish Open-Air Museum can also be traced back to Leduc, who campaigned for the project with a great deal of commitment and was finally able to assert the location in Kommern against around 30 competing cities and communities.

The Kommern districts of Kommern-Süd and Katzvey were created under Leduc's leadership. Katzvey has developed from a settlement of holiday homes into a district.

Norbert Leduc also devoted himself to work on local history. The result is an extensive archive and several books, including the history of the Catholic parish of St. Severinus and the two volumes of the Kommern local lexicon. In 1979 he proved the existence of the Katzenburg in Katzvey. His estate, which comprises 50 meters of shelving and contains manuscripts on numerous local history topics, is in the Mechernich city archive and represents a significant part of its holdings.

Since 2006 a memorial in the mill park in Kommern has been commemorating Norbert Leduc.
