Athletic career

In 1956, Norbert Schegietz was a member of the company sports association (BSG) Motor Süd Brandenburg in the squad of the GDR junior national team and played five international junior matches from March to July. In these games he formed the middle field axis with Waldemar Mühlbächer . Schegietz played until the end of the 1960 season (calendar year season) for Motor Süd Brandenburg, most recently in the third-class II. GDR League . In early 1961 he joined the upper division Lok Stendal, but was only used there from the 1st to the 8th matchday in seven Bundesliga games. He played together with Kurt Liebrecht in midfield and scored two goals. Subsequently, Lok Stendal was no longer used for Schegietz, and Schegietz returned to Motor Süd Brandenburg, where he helped the team to advance to the first GDR league . In the GDR league season 1962/63 (again summer-spring game rhythm) Schegietz was only used seven times in the 26 played point games, and the BSG Motor Süd rose again after only one season. Since the 2nd GDR league had been abolished in the meantime, the Brandenburgers now played in the third-class district league , where they initially remained until 1978. At this point in time, Norbert Schegietz had already finished his career as a football player without having returned to higher-class football.
