Itinerary along Lake Lucerne

The north-south route is the national cycle route 3 in Switzerland . It begins in Basel , runs through Aarau , Lucerne , Andermatt , the Gotthard Pass , Bellinzona and Locarno to Chiasso . It has a length of 365 km. In north-south direction 3180 meters of altitude have to be overcome, from south to north 3200 m.

Like the other national cycle routes in Switzerland, the route is marked with red signs.

Veloverlad

A so-called Veloverlad can save vertical meters. When using the suggested bike loading system, it is only 680 meters in altitude from north to south, and 800 m in the opposite direction.

Since summer 2019, the section through the Schöllenen Gorge has been open to cyclists again in both directions. The construction site-related forced bicycle loading between Göschenen and Andermatt for mountain bikers has been lifted.
