The Alpine Panorama Route is the national cycle route 4 in Switzerland . It begins in St. Margrethen , runs through St. Gallen , Stans , Sarnen , Thun and Freiburg to Aigle . It has a length of 485 km. There are 7900 meters of altitude to overcome in both directions.

Between Lake Lucerne and Glarus , the routes use the busy Axenstrasse (A 4 / H 2) along the lakeshore and the Klausen Pass . You can replace this section in summer with the less traveled but steeper Suworow route over the Pragel Pass .

Like the other national cycle routes in Switzerland, the route is marked with red signs.

Connecting routes

In St. Margrethen connection to the Rhine route and the lakes route ; in Stans on the north-south route ; in Thun on the Aare route and in Aigle on the Rhone route . The Alpine Panorama Route crosses the Lakes Route several times.

Veloverlad

A so-called Veloverlad can save vertical meters. When using the suggested bike loading system, it is only 4100 meters in altitude from St. Margrethen to Aigle, and 3400 meters in the opposite direction.
