The Nordic Augentrost ( Euphrasia frigida ), also Scandinavian Augentrost called, a plant is art from the genus Augentrost ( Euphrasia ) in the family of broomrape plants (Orobanchaceae).

description

The Nordic eyebright is a 3 to 15 cm large, semi - parasitic annual plant . The stem is often bent at the base. The leaves are covered on both sides with four to seven blunt to pointed teeth, they are about as wide as they are long. They are relatively large in relation to the entire plant.

The inflorescences are terminal and appear after usually two to four, rarely five internodes . The flowers are 5 to 7 mm long, the crowns are veined white and purple.

The fruits are capsule fruits that are as long or longer as the perennial calyx.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 44.

Occurrence

The species occurs in northern and central Europe, in northwest Asia and in eastern North America. It grows on mountain meadows and grasslands on acidic, nutrient-poor soils. It occurs in societies of the order Nardetalia and the associations of the Montanen Goldhaferwiesen (Polygono-Trisetion) and the semi-arid grasslands (Mesobromion).
