In the north park

The Nordpark is a nine-hectare inner-city park in the Thuringian capital of Erfurt . It is located on the Gera in the Andreasvorstadt district north of the center. The Nordbad Erfurt , the Luther school , a sports field and a bowling alley are located in the Nordpark .

When development plans for the north of Erfurt were drawn up around 1900, the city gardening director Otto Linne got involved . He suggested creating an eleven-hectare public park between Nordhäuser Strasse and Gera, which, however, should not be an ornamental park, but a nature park with large open spaces. After Linne went to Essen in 1908 , Max Bromme took over his position. In 1910 the Gera was relocated to a new river bed and the floodplain in the area of what is now the North Park was drained. In 1912 the City Council adopted the plan to plant the North Park, which, however, only after the First World War by director Hermann Braband came for execution. This is how the park was created between 1923 and 1925. Today it serves as a green space for the surrounding quarters and the adjacent Helios Clinic in Erfurt .

In summer the park serves as a starting point for evening tours with a hot air balloon .
