The Nordpfalzgymnasium (short NPG) is a grammar school sponsored by the Donnersbergkreis , which is located in the district town of Kirchheimbolanden . In the 2012/2013 class, 67 teachers taught a total of 865 students in the school.

history

The history of the Nordpfalzgymnasium can be traced back to a Latin school that was founded in 1681. With the conquest of the Rhine Palatinate by the Kingdom of Bavaria , this Latin school became royal Bavarian. This was gradually expanded into a Progymnasium with six classes. When the old school building was destroyed after a fire in 1897, reconstruction began in the Amtsstraße. After the Second World War, the school was expanded to nine classes, and a little later in 1950 the school was named Nordpfalzgymnasium . In 1965 the school moved to new premises on the southern outskirts. The building was completely (energetically) refurbished between 2009 and 2012 - while the school was still in operation - with funds from the Economic Pact II. All scientific rooms (three biology rooms, two for chemistry, two for physics) have not only been completely rebuilt, but also equipped with the most modern teaching materials. The Nordpfalzgymnasium has been a so-called passive house since then . The general renovation cost around 13 million euros.

particularities

The Nordpfalzgymnasium has been a school with a focus on information technology since 2002. Therefore, in the orientation level (grades 5 and 6) “IT lessons” can be offered on three school days per year in the form of team teaching. One class is then taught by two teachers in the two IT subject rooms. Each student works intensively on his own PC. Successful participation is noted in the annual report. From grade 7 to the tenth grade, "IT" is a voluntary AG. Here too, successful participation is documented in the annual report. From the 11th grade, computer science can be taken as a basic subject.

There are class trips from the fifth grade. The school has partnerships with high schools in Great Britain , France , the USA and Russia . Schoolchildren can take part in exchanges from the eighth grade onwards. The school's travel concept provides for course or topic-related study trips in the Mainz study stage 11, a combined social and industrial internship in the 12th grade and a “ski / snowboard” study trip to Austria after the written Abitur exams in the 13th grade.

In the orientation level (grades 5 and 6) there is voluntary all-day care ("learning & playing"). Here the parents decide at the beginning of each half year whether their child should eat one, two or three afternoons in the school's own canteen, then do homework under supervision and then take part in a group (e.g. climbing, computers, creative activities Writing, "school zoo", football etc.) is allowed. From grade 7 this offer is no longer available. Up to grade 10, lessons usually end after the 6th lesson (1:10 p.m.). However, from the upper level, the lessons can also be in the afternoon (11th lesson, 5 p.m.).
