Norman Hill Boke

Norman Hill Boke ( 1913 - February 1996 ) was an American botanist , microbiologist and cactus specialist. Its official botanical author abbreviation is " Boke ".

Live and act

Norman Hill Boke received his "undergraduate degree" from the University of South Dakota in 1934 and made his master's degree in 1936 from the University of Oklahoma . He then went to the University of California , where he received his doctorate under Adriance Sherwood Foster and received his doctorate in botany in 1939. Before Boke was appointed professor at the University of Oklahoma in 1945, he taught at the University of New Mexico and Johns Hopkins University . In Oklahoma Boke teaching plant anatomy , morphology of vascular plants and biological microscopy . He made a significant contribution to research into the development and structure of the gynoeceum of the cactus family .

From 1970 to 1975, Boke was editor of the American Journal of Botany . He undertook numerous field studies and was well versed in Mexican flora.

Honor taxon

Leo Kladiwa and Franz Buxbaum named the genus Normanbokea from the plant family of the cactus plants (Cactaceae), which is now synonymous with the genus Turbinicarpus , in his honor .
