Norman Savage

Norman Savage (* 1930 in Hendon , Middlesex , † 1973 in London ) was a British film editor and sound designer who oversaw a number of well-known film productions in the editing room during his 20-year film career. Including award-winning classics from international cinema such as Doctor Schiwago , Ryan's Daughter or Who Sows Violence .

life and career

Norman Savage began his training in the cutting room in the early 1950s, both in editing and sound, initially as an assistant in film productions such as David Lean's The Lord of the House (1954) or Carol Reed's Full of Wonders is Life (1955). In 1962, film editor Anne V. Coates assisted David Lean's Oscar-winning masterpiece Lawrence of Arabia with Peter O'Toole as TE Lawrence . In 1965 he was in charge of David Lean's internationally acclaimed directorial work on Doctor Zhivago as an independent editor, and received an Oscar nomination for his work . In 1968 he worked for the two directors Fielder Cook and Ronald Neame for their comedy The Pill was to blame for everything . In 1969 Ronald Neame engaged him again for his romantic drama The Best Years of Miss Jean Brodie . He was honored as a film editor with a BAFTA Award nomination for David Lean's drama Ryan's daughter in 1971 , and in 1973, director Robert Bolt entrusted him with the editing of the historical drama The Great Love of Lady Caroline .

Norman Savage had also worked as a sound designer since 1960, including in 1961 for Basil Dearden's crime film The Uncanny Accomplice , for Jack Cardiff's adventure film Patricia and the Lion and in the background for Sam Peckinpah's thriller Who Sows Violence .
